Death on the Nile (1978) - December's Movie Suggestion
Mia Farrow's Fried Fish with Ginger Sauce is this month's star-spangled recipe
December already? Yes! Here’s an opulent, epic movie that will transport you away from the stresses that often come with this month’s relentless hurtling towards the festive season.
I have been working on an Agatha Christie-related book at my fabulous bookbinding course and will reveal all soon. Here’s a sneaky peek at the work in progress…
One side of the book includes recipes from the stars of Death on the Nile and the other side, Murder on the Orient Express. These will be printed, assembled and hand-sewn by yours truly this week. I will let you know when they are up for grabs. Not sure how many there will be - a maximum of 30 I think…
Treat yourself!
I know that December is a mad busy month for most people but do set time aside and treat yourself to a little cruise down the Nile! There are so many superb performances in this movie and it is FUNNY too.
This would be a perfect film to watch on Boxing Day if you have such a thing where you are, or in that strange limbo between Christmas and New Year. Here’s an invite you could send to friends or family.
Watch parties for one are also roundly encouraged here at Dinner and a Movie. Take a breather! Turn off your phone, close the curtains and indulge yourself in a fabulous movie. As the ads say, because you are worth it!
Mia Farrow’s Fried Fish with Ginger Sauce
The movie-specific recipe I have chosen is from the kitchen of Mia Farrow. I love this ginger/soy sauce/mushroom sauce. Do give this one a whirl if you eat fish, it’s absolutely delicious and it’s not just me who thinks so. Fellow Agatha Christie fan and creator of the genius Dining With the Dame blogposts Taryn Fryer of Retro Food For Modern Times rustled this up too. Here’s how hers turned out
and here’s mine.
We both really loved Mia’s way of serving her fishy, recommended!
Do check out Taryn’s website where you’ll find many delightful things to cook and do get in touch if you give this recipe a whirl.
Drinkies and Snacks
If you imbibe, I recommend a Gibson and for a movie-appropriate snack, some Bette Davis Eyes canapés…
As Bette is in this movie. She is utterly majestic!
If you’d like to join me in the Gibsons and Eyes, here’s a video I made for the VERY FIRST Dinner and a Movie Substack way back in April 2023. So much fun.
For Special Members of the Silver Screen Suppers Club (aka my lovely paid subscribers), some extra goodies will be coming on Friday.
Recipes from the kitchens of David Niven, Peter Ustinov and Angela Lansbury
A recently discovered favourite recipe from the kitchen of Dame Agatha Christie herself! She famously loved cream, and there is indeed cream in her recipe for Lemon Sole Greenway.
A Christmassy video chat from my kitchen on the south coast of England.
Holidays are coming!
Have you started buying your prezzies yet? Do you know someone who would like one of these?
