AN ONLINE CLASSIC MOVIE CLUB WITH ACCOMPANYING STAR-SPANGLED RECIPES

WATCH THE MOVIE OR MAKE THE DISH - OR BOTH

Each month we’ll focus on one classic film and a recipe from the kitchen of one of its cast members. I hereby invite you to rustle up the dish, then cosy up on the sofa with your favourite beverage and immerse yourself in Hollywood glamour for a couple of hours. Watch the movie and/or make the dish whenever suits you.

Do not fret if you have never seen a black & white film or picked up a spatula; you are all welcome here. I will be your guide to exploring the wonderful world of old movies and rattling the pots and pans.

The chosen film will be announced on the first Sunday of the month, and we’ll all watch it in our own homes in our own sweet time. You can rustle up the star’s signature dish on the same day as your screening, or anytime really. Life gets complicated, I know. Bonus paid content will drop into inboxes on the following Friday - it might be a movie-appropriate cocktail demonstration, a cute canapé to create or a dish from one of the co-stars. All delightful things that will enhance your viewing experience.

Halfway through the month, I’ll open the chat in the Substack app so you can tell me what you thought of the film and how your Tinseltown din-dins turned out.

JOIN THE SILVER SCREEN SUPPERS CLUB

Whether you are a foodie or a filmie or both, behind the scenes, there will be lots of gossiping about movies, their stars and the things they liked to eat and drink.

Those who have a free subscription will always be stars to me. However, the starlet (monthly), superstar (annual) and megastar (founder) members will receive extra content and have a say in how the club is run and which movies we’ll focus on.

In addition, those who choose the megastar option will be assigned a movie star moniker that is theirs for life! All will be genuine film star character names such as Moonbeam McSwine, Kittens Westcourt, Pepper Whipple and Sugarpuss O’Shea. Who will be Rufus T. Firefly?

I have someone in mind…

WHO IS YOUR CLUB HOSTESS?

I’m Jenny, and I began collecting movie star recipes around 25 years ago when I spotted this pamphlet in a glass cabinet of a stamp and postcard collectors’ emporium in Norwich.

It was £12 and full of photographs of actors and actresses wearing chef’s hats and aprons.

I snapped it up and vowed there and then to start eating like my idols. My collection now numbers over 8,000, and I’ve been blogging about them since 2006 on the Silver Screen Suppers website. I couldn’t cook for toffee when I started. But thanks to the likes of Joan Crawford, Vincent Price and Yul Brynner, I now happily sprinkle stardust around my kitchen on a regular basis.

I’m really excited about sharing recipes from my archive and hearing how they turn out for you.

Cheers!

I have many chums of Oscar winning talent who have supported my writing and I have thanked them in a small way by assigning them a movie star moniker.
