Mildred's Chicken and Waffles
For the Mildred Pierce watch party or any time you fancy channeling Mildred!
If I had a teleporter, I would be zipping backwards and forwards from the UK to Toronto to have brunch on a regular basis. Because, my friends, there is a MILDRED PIERCE RESTAURANT in Toronto!
There are dishes named after our favourite folk from the movie such as Huevos Monty, Veda’s Choice, Little Kay’s Favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Mrs Biederhof’s Legendary Light and Fluffy Blueberry Pancakes.
PHOR!
Luckily, for those of us who live far from Toronto
There is a fabulous cookbook, so we can all attempt to recreate some of the fabulous dishes served there.
Thanks to chefs Donna Dooher & Claire Stubbs for all the fab recipes in this book, it’s a peach of a cookbook.
I am thrilled that Jeff Dinan at Mildred’s Temple Restaurant said YES when I asked if I could share their fabulous recipe for chicken and waffles with you all. I thought I should probably have a go at making it before sharing it and I am not exaggerating when I say this was the most delicious non-movie star dish I have cooked in living memory. I felt like a DOMESTIC GODDESS.
This takes time, my friends, but it’s 100% worth it.
There are 4 elements to the dish. You can prepare the Dijon cream sauce and the blueberry & green peppercorn chutney ahead of time. Here’s my chutney on the go - it was absolutely divine.
I felt like a proper chef assembling all the elements, and when I took my first bite, I SWOONED with delight at all the fabulous flavours.
So, if you fancy making this for the Mildred Pierce watch party on the 22nd, I would totally recommend it. Send me photos. I’m doing a prize draw to win a copy of the Joan Crawford cookbook on the 1st of November.
Everyone who sends me photos of any of the Joan Crawford recipes I’ve shared here on Substack, or this supersonic version of chicken and waffles by 1st November will be in with a chance to win.
Here’s the recipe. It’s an absolute corker!
What time is brunch?!
If you missed the details about the watch party, it’s all here…
Everyone welcome wherever you are in the world.
