Delighted to be here Jenny! Was in a delightful champagne effervescent mingle with you last Wed! Glad I can try before I buy! You are the first substack I've been really tempted to become a proper paid up member for! And now I remember you from months ago as the author of the cookbook about Vintage Movie Stars' Recipes! I loved the sound of it then, but, as is often the way with my addled 64 yr old brain, I forgot to find the book! Until now...

Love this pairing!!!! This is my favorite Doris film (tied with The Thrill of it All), and I'd be lying if I said my interior design degree wasn't 100% influenced by my desire to BE Jan Morrow someday. Alas, I think I turned out more like Alma, lol. Will be making these potatoes soon!

Ahh, I can see how you would want to be Jan, she is ACE!! Ooh, I've never seen The Thrill of it All so that going straight on the "to watch" list. I've included a link to your Gin Daisy post in the newsletter that's going out on Friday. I feel a self indulgent evening coming on...

Such a great suggestion! That Peach Angel Food Cake looks splendid. I would surely would love to watch it with Thelma Ritter’s Alma, she is wonderful.

I absolutely ADORE Thelma Ritter, but guess what? Not a single recipe from her in my collection. She is on my MOST WANTED list 😂

Wow! I didn't know that. If she didn't leave any, New York should have created a dish with her name. That would be so cool. I adore her too!

I agree! I think there is someone on Instagram who knows EVERYTHING about Thelma so when I spot them, I will ask them to start a campaign!

Love this posting - really cheered me up on a gloomy day. I agree, Doris Day was a fab comic actress and I LOVE the look of that baked potato...

And it's nice to think back to the days of landline phones - seems like a freer time, somehow...or am I just getting old? 😀

Ahhh Inge, it makes my day to think I have cheered someone up. The potato is a revelation. Soooo good, do try it. Talking of going back to the days of the landline phone, I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, I'd like to go back to the days of the picture postcard as the best means of communication, that's how old I am!!!

Ah, picture postcards...I'm definitely at least as old as you lol. The joy of receiving a postcard from an exotic location with a strange stamp...happy days 😍

I always try and send a few when I'm on holiday but they are getting harder to come by... Let's invent a time machine!

My ex, before he was my ex, always used to send both letters and postcards from his adventures in distant places - so retro, so delightful. We're still on (reasonably!) good terms so I think he's sent me a postcard from his latest adventure - just taking a looong time to get here - the tradition continues!

Maybe we should restart the tradition? Every time we go somewhere we send a postcard to someone we care about...or even to ourselves...I might start today!

Well, I did it - I sent a postcard (albeit to myself) yesterday from my day away! Such fun!

Inge, this is BRILLIANT! I bet you'll get such a kick out of it when it lands on your doorstep. I plan to do the same sometime soon. With the post being as bad as it is here in the UK, and with my memory being what it is, I will probably have totally forgotten I sent it by the time it arrives! Jx
